One of the most relaxing places I’ve had the privilege to enjoy while living in the Arab world was El Quseir, Egypt. Also known as Al Qusayr, this little-known Red Sea town is located 139 km north of Marsa Alam and 138 km south of Hurghada (Wiki).
El Quseir, Egypt: The town
When away from your resort, El Quseir gives you a glimpse of the real Middle East.
El Quseir, Egypt: My oasis’ base
I happen to know the son of the owner of the Radisson Blu Resort (!) and was able to stay at a villa there for a couple of days with my closest Egyptian friends. Talk about WOW! Loved the architecture, friendly service, and general sense of calmness you feel whilst staying in this resort. At the time of my visit, there were very few guests, but the weather was excellent. I was told by the manager that it is mostly Italian tourists that visit the resort on high season (approx. mid Sept – late Nov; late Dec – Jan). If you visit any other time of the year, it is likely you’ll (almost) have the resort and town for yourself. This reality is quickly evolving, though, so visit El Quseir while you still have the wonderful opportunity to see how the locals live (as seen above).
If you are looking to get away from it all while traveling the Middle East, El Quiseir, Egypt is the perfect oasis! While the Radisson Blu is the perfect base for your secret Arab oasis experience.
El Quseir, Egypt is great for snorkeling and diving, too! The best is found off the pier – walk toward the right side of the Radisson resort’s beach and you’ll see it. There’s also a dive shop nearby to rent snorkeling gear and book dive trips.
